Sacraments

As a catholic community, Prince of Peace is a sacramentally based church. We welcome all who wish to receive the sacraments the church has to offer. Please see the notes below for specific information regarding the sacraments. You can jump to a specific section by clicking on the sacrament names below

Baptism

Baptism is the sacrament of welcoming into the church community. Parents who wish to have an infant or child baptized should contact the parish office at least one month prior to the requested date.

Adults who wish to be baptized for the first time should also contact the church office so that baptism preparation classes can be arranged.

Baptisms can be performed by either a priest or deacon.

Eucharist / Communion

Eucharist and the belief in the real presence of Christ in the sacrament of Holy Eucharist is at the center of catholic belief. It is a principal part of our weekly mass.

Eucharist is also available outside of mass for those sick, homebound or hospitalized who are unable to attend mass. Please contact the church office if you wish to receive this sacrament outside of our normal mass times.

Prince of Peace believes in an "open communion table", which means that any baptized Christian is welcomed to our Eucharistic table so long as they understand and respect our belief in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist

The holy sacrafice of mass can only be celebrated by a priest, but Eucharist that has been previously consecrated can be distributed by a priest, deacon or someone authorized by the pastor to act as a Eucharistic Minister.

Confirmation

Confirmation is a sacrament of mature Christian commitment and a deepening of baptismal gifts. Like Baptism, it is a Sacrament of Initiation for Catholics.

Please contact the church office so that prepraration classes can be arranged.

The sacrament of Confirmation can only be conferred by a bishop of the church.

Marriage / Holy Unions

Marriage is the joining together of two people together in a lifetime commitment to each other before God and their community. Our priests and deacons are authorized to perform legal marriages within the State of New York and outside of New York as authorized by local law.

Since New York State does not currently recognize full marriage equality, we can not perform a "legal" marriages for same gender couples. Instead, we will sacramentally recognize and solemnize this sacred bond with a Holy Union ceremony.

Marriages and Holy Union ceremonies can either be within the context of a mass or a separate ceremony.

Please contact the church office at least three months prior to the requested date to arrange for a Marriage or Holy Union.

Please contact the parish office to request a hospital or home visit.

Holy Orders

If you are a man or woman who feels called to the deaconate or priesthood, please contact the parish office. We will put you in contact with our bishop so that you can begin the discernment process and be mentored by a current member of the clergy.

Prince of Peace and the Celtic Christian Church welcomes all who have a calling by God to serve regardless of marital status, gender, age, sexual orientation or gender identification.

The discernment and training process can take several years and the process is tailored to the specific needs of the individual. Only the bishop can confer Holy Orders.
